About Individualised Funding (also known as self-directed funding)The Julia Farr Association (JFA) strongly supports the principle that people living with disability and their families have genuine personal authority in their lives, to build lifestyles of choice that are characterised by participative citizenship. Put more simply, people are making their own decisions and are fully involved in the life of their community. The best way to achieve this is where peoples support arrangements are tailored around their particular circumstances, needs and aspirations. This is sometimes called personalization. The Funding can also be personalized. Instead of the government agreeing contracts with service providers for services that people then have to fit into, the government can work directly with the person through something called Individualised Funding. This is where the person finds out how much public funding they can access based on their support needs, and the person has control over how that money can best be used to support them. Following our research, JFA has previously published two monographs on this topic, called: Funding: A summary review of its nature and impact, and key elements for success Individualised Funding: General considerations On Implementation You can order copies of these monographs by clicking here or telephoning us on 8373 8333. A founding collaborator of the In Control Australia movement, JFA continues its research into this important topic. We have a growing library of useful resources on our website, so be sure to visit us regularly. You can also visit www.in-control.org.au and be part of the movement.
